Director
SUMMARY
We are looking for a motivated, technical accounting focused Director to join our expanding team at Lohman & Associates. The Director will report to a Senior Director and will be expected to be an experienced finance manager with strong business acumen who thinks strategically, is results driven, and is collaborative. The Director must excel in the coordination of company financial planning, budget and cash management, and in ensuring appropriate accounting procedures are implemented and financial reporting conforms to GAAP. The Director must have a track record of results in implementing systems, policies, and processes that enable the company growth with strong business controls. The Director will act as a trusted business partner with the executive leadership team, bankers, investors, and board members of any of our clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee accounting close of several clients, ensuring that the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with GAAP, including review of monthly journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Act as quality control and final review for all financial materials including monthly or quarterly financial reporting packages, budgets and forecasts, board-facing materials, tax and audit packages, and SEC filings.
- Ensure appropriate control environment to safeguard and protect financial assets and ensure compliance with regulatory environment.
- Provide technical accounting analysis and documented conclusions around accounting positions for a variety of complex accounting topics (e.g., complex financial instruments, derivatives, business combinations, VIEs, and joint ventures).
- Review technical accounting analysis and documented conclusions around accounting positions for accounting topics as prepared by Accounting Managers.
- Assess the impact of new accounting pronouncements and collaborate with clients to drive company-specific implementation.
- Research and document the accounting treatment for new transactions and business initiatives.
- Draft financial statements and footnotes in compliance with US GAAP and be the main point of contact for auditors, tax accountants, valuation experts, and any other financial vendors on behalf of our clients.
- Recommend and implement appropriate internal controls and best practices.
- Act as a strategic advisor and partner to client executive leadership teams.
- Act as a direct supervisor of Accounting Managers.
- Takes an active role in development and training of staff, seniors, and managers, including coaching and guiding personnel.
- Actively seeks to grow or improve the firm and/or firm practices including involvement in any of the following areas: business development, firm-wide training initiatives, and process improvements.
- Expected to contribute to strategic Company discussions and internal management of the organization.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or related discipline required
- CPA license required
- SEC Reporting Experience preferred
- At least 12 years of experience in Accounting with progressive responsibility
- Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
- Demonstrated expertise in GAAP accounting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
- Experience in the life science industries preferred
- Experience in NetSuite or Sage preferred
